FISHING FRENZY IN EXMOUTH WA!

It’s been an amazing couple of weeks for the sport of Gamefishing in Exmouth WA as the town burst at the seams with an influx of excited anglers and visitors attending the Australian International Billfish tournament followed this week by GAMEX!

Jeni Gates, President of the Exmouth Game Fishing Club reports nonstop excitement with fabulous hauls of big blues, small blacks, sails, marlin and even a sailfish! AIBT alone saw 114 billfish tagged. In it's first time away from the eastern states it is fair to say that the Australian International Billfishing Tournament has had a fabulous year with a record number of entrants in the tournament and each Australian state represented.

In GAMEX over 200 have been tagged with seven of those weighing in at over 500lb after 5 days. Now that’s the sport at its best! The tournament is due to wrap up this evening and with stats like those who knows what else we will see with a day’s fishing still to be completed.

But the excitement hasn’t all been saved for the water with events in town providing many an opportunity to enjoy the festive vibe. The Exmouth Game Fishing Club has been playing host to a variety of events including a champagne breakfast and rollicking night of rock n’ roll with Slim Jim and the Phats hitting town; their ever popular tunes getting Exmouth’s groove on.

One of nature's most amazing events, the Coral Spawn, will occur in the next few days followed by another in May.

The next exciting event on Exmouth’s horizon is the Ningaloo Whale Shark Festival where the town celebrates the return of these stunning creatures as the world’s biggest fish return home to the magnificent Ningaloo Marine Park. The festival runs biennially, this year in May. Stay tuned for more information on this, including dates.
